PROGRAMS AND INITIATIVES FOR SENIORS: FORMS AND APPLICATIONS
We know that every Canadian deserves a secure and dignified retirement. We are working to help more seniors stay in their own homes and keep more money in their pockets by:
Assisting low-income seniors to keep more of what they earn by enhancing the Guaranteed Income Supplement earnings exemption.
Promoting seniors’ participation in their communities by enhancing the New Horizons for Seniors’ Program, which supports local projects that help seniors engage with the community and raise awareness of elder abuse.
For many Canadians, working until the age of 67 is not an option. That is why we restored the age of eligibility for Old Age Security benefits from 67 back to 65 years old.
On July 1st, we increased Old Age Security and the Guaranteed Income Supplement—that means up to $2,000 more dollars in the pockets of seniors. Through Budget 2019, we're helping to seniors keep more of their hard-earned income, investing $50 million to support Canada’s first National Dementia Strategy, funding more projects for seniors who want to stay active and involved in their communities, and are taking the next steps to make medication more affordable for seniors.
