FIRST-TIME HOME BUYER INCENTIVE
Every day Canadians work hard to build a better future for themselves and their families, but for many, rising house prices have made homeownership seem unaffordable and increasingly out of reach. That’s why in Budget 2019, we announced the First-Time Home Buyer Incentive which will help lower monthly mortgage payments, making homeownership more accessible for middle-class Canadians. Starting on September 2nd, 2019, it will be more affordable for Canadians to buy their first home. Everyone needs a safe and affordable place to call home, but today, too many Canadians are being priced out of the housing market. The new First-Time Home Buyer Incentive will make homeownership more affordable for first-time buyers by allowing them to lower their monthly mortgage payments without increasing their down payment. This means more money in the pockets of middle-class Canadians. Through Budget 2019, for the 4th consecutive year, our Government is making significant investments to help Canadians find an affordable place to call home, while also making the housing market fairer. The incentive will allow eligible First-Time homebuyers, who have the minimum down payment for an insured mortgage, to apply to finance a portion of their home purchase through a form of shared equity mortgage with the Government of Canada. This means that First-time homebuyers will be able to save up to $286 a month on their mortgage payments through the First-Time Home Buyer Incentive. This means lower monthly payments and more money for hard-working middle-class Canadians to put towards the things that matter to them: furthering their education, putting their kids in sports, or saving for retirement.
